(Norwich, CT) – The Norwich Historical Society operates the Dr. Daniel Lathrop Schoolhouse located at 69 East Town Street in Norwich. The hours of operation will be Saturday and Sunday 11:00am-3:00pm May 4th – October 27th. There will be a few different things at the Lathrop Schoolhouse when we open this season on May 4th. To start, we are moving away from being a visitors' center and instead transformed the space into an educational center. There will be exhibits for adults, interactive experiences, and hands-on activities for children of all ages. Additionally, we will have a gift shop at the schoolhouse and online which can be accessed via our website. The shop will be filled with Walk Norwich gear fabricated by Ideal Skate shop in Norwich. Since we will be moving away from being a visitors' center, admission will be $5/adults and free for NHS members and children under the age of 15 years old. Please note the schoolhouse is cashless and can only accept credit or debit card payments. The outside information box will still have brochures for anyone who is interested. Lastly, please join us for Colonial Days on Saturday, May 4th from 11am-3pm, at the Norwichtown Green! Experience what it was like when Norwichtown was the center of social and commercial life in the eighteenth century. Celebrate the 2024 season opening of the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop and the Daniel Lathrop Schoolhouse. Other activities include listening to period music, having a cup of The Pewter Pot Fine Spiced Chocolates, seeing the wares of Big Bear Trading Co., watch as Scott the Blacksmith shows off his skills, and learn about a soldier’s life from the 6th CT Regiment. Inside the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith shop will be a living history interpreter and interpretive panels on the history of the historic Norwichtown Green. The Dr. Daniel Lathrop Schoolhouse will be open as a newly renovated educational space. Discover Norwich's history on the Green! Museum Admission is $5/adult.
