(Norwich, CT) - In collaboration with The Last Green Valley, the Norwich Historical Society is hosting 40 events and tours as part of Walktober beginning on September 16, 2023 and ending on November 5, 2023. This year, Norwich’s Walktober walks are proudly sponsored by Norwich Public Works.

The City of Norwich is proud to be a member of the Last Green Valley. The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor comprised of 35 towns in Eastern Connecticut and Southern Massachusetts. The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) is a nonprofit charitable organization established in 1995. They are advocates for the fragile and irreplaceable resources of The Last Green Valley. Founded as a grassroots organization and built upon a proven track record of success and partnerships, TLGV is ensuring a natural and cultural legacy for generations to come.

During the past 30 years, the Last Green Valley has been sponsoring guided walks which began as Walking Weekends in October, and which have morphed from one weekend of guided walking tours to a month-long event called Walktober. Norwich’s participation in Walktober has grown exponentially over the past few years and we are pleased to have offered 40 walks, virtual experiences, and special events in Norwich for Walktober 2023.
Walktober calendars are now available at the Norwich Heritage & Regional Visitors’ Center, Leffingwell House Museum, the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop, The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, and City Hall. Norwich’s walks are located on our events calendar. The virtual experiences are available on the Norwich Historical Society’s website and the Last Green Valley’s website and YouTube Channel. ABOUT THE NORWICH HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Formed in 2001, the Norwich Historical Society seeks to preserve, protect, and promote the
rich history of Norwich, CT. We are a registered 501(c)(3), non-profit organization run by an
Executive Director and a volunteer board of directors. Over the past five years, the Norwich
Historical Society launched several initiatives designed to strengthen Norwich’s heritage tourism
efforts such as opening the Norwich Heritage & Regional Visitors' Center and creating the Walk
Norwich Trail system which is a series of historically themed self-guided walking tours.
