(Norwich, CT) – The Norwich Historical Society will host NHS Second Saturday Tour: Notables of Yantic Cemetery on Saturday, August 12, 2023, 10:00 am – 11:30 am. Please join local historian, Dave Oat, and living history presenters, the Dirty Blue Shirts, for a fascinating tour through the historic Yantic Cemetery. You will hear stories about the notable Norwich residents buried here, learn about Victorian era funerary practices, and discover the history behind the impressive nineteenth century monuments in the cemetery. Additionally, we may come across some voices from the past who wish to share their story. The tour is less than 1 mile and takes place on flat, relatively even ground. Easy. No restrooms. Please no dogs. Please wear appropriate footwear and sun protection since the Yantic Cemetery does not have a lot of shade trees. Please meet at the main gates of Yantic Cemetery. Parking is in the cemetery or along side streets. Please be aware of small graves when parking in the cemetery.
