In May 2022, workers in the Norwich-New London-Westerly, CT-RI Metropolitan Statistical Area had an average hourly wage of $30.70, 3 percent above the nationwide average, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Norwich area wages were higher than their respective national averages in 11 of the 20 major occupational groups for which hourly wage data were available. Today’s release highlights educational instruction and library occupations. Educational instruction and library occupations accounted for 6.4% of local employment, significantly higher than the 5.7% share nationally The Norwich area had 7,700 employees working in educational instruction and library jobs. Average wages of educational instruction and library workers in the Norwich area were 8% above the group's national average.
