Grants will help address education, workforce development, housing and health and wellness. (West Warwick, R.I.) April 18, 2023 – Harold M. Horvat, Centreville Bank president, CEO, and chairman, today announced that the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $340,467 in funding to15 Connecticut and Rhode Island organizations. The grants are part of the Foundation’s quarterly donation cycle. These first quarter cycle grants focus on the Foundation’s key priority areas: education success, economic security and capacity building. Among the grant recipients, the University of Rhode Island Foundation & Alumni Engagement (Kingston, R.I.) was awarded a total of $100,000 to support students in the University’s Talent Development (TD) Program. The program is designed to recruit and support students who, without the support of TD, would not expect to attend college. TD opens doors for thousands of underrepresented minority and educationally disadvantaged students. "We are grateful to the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation for making this multi-year commitment to the URI Talent Development (TD) Program," said Marc Parlange, president of the University of Rhode Island. "TD is a national model for success, and since its inception has provided services, support, and pathways to a URI degree for thousands of students. Our TD alums have forged successful careers and contribute meaningfully to their communities, and I am proud to partner with the foundation to continue helping these scholars reach their academic goals." The Pomfret Public Library (Pomfret, Conn.) was awarded $25,000 to support the construction of an addition to its existing facility. The addition will double the library’s footprint, providing much-needed space for children’s and family programming and community rooms. “We’re very grateful for the contribution of the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation towards the building addition at Pomfret Public Library,” said Laurie Bell, Library Director, Pomfret Public Library. “We began our plan to add space for library programs and community meeting rooms just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, and it was a setback to find that construction costs are now roughly twice what they were in our initial 2018 estimate! With the generosity of Centerville Bank Foundation, and other local donors, we are confident that we will soon be able to bring our building plans to fruition and expand our library services to the community.” Additional organizations receiving the Foundation’s first quarter 2023 grants include: -Beautiful Day (Providence, R.I.) - $15,000 grant will be used to support the organization’s Refugee Youth Job Training Program. Now in its third year, the program provides classroom and experiential work components to prepare students to enter the workforce. -Books are Wings (Pawtucket, R.I.) - $14,967.96 will be used to help fund technology and capacity building efforts. -Friends Way (Warwick, R.I.) - $25,000 will support the social and emotional health of children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. -House of Hope CDC (Warwick, R.I.) - $5,000 grant will help fund the Peer Mentor Employment and Training Program.
