Leffingwell House Museum 348 Washington St. Norwich announces Americana Corner Grant Award info@leffingwellhousemuseum.org The Society of the Founders of Norwich CT is proud to announce that the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2023 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant Program! The program was established to assist non-profit organizations like us in the telling of the incredible story of America from its founding era through its first century as a nation. Visit www.americanacorner.com for details. 120 grant awardees across 35 states received up to $10,000 each from the Americana Corner Fund at Donors Trust. These grants help fund a diverse range of projects, including restoring historical objects, creating educational displays, and making improvements to historic sites that will enhance the visitor experience. Our Grant award will be used for painting of the exterior of the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop which will preserve and maintain its integrity against weather and age. The shop was built in 1772 by Joseph Carpenter, silversmith and clock maker. It is unique in that much of the original structural elements are still part of the building. It has never been moved and is one of the few remaining tradesmen shops left in New England still on the same site. The forge that Carpenter used has been revealed for visitors to enjoy. This history museum is open for visitors from May 6th - October, 11am-3pm Friday-Sunday. Cost: $5
