[February 27, 2023, Hartford, CT] As a catalyst for a thriving manufacturing ecosystem in the state of Connecticut, the professional association known as ManufactureCT has announced details of its first-ever scholarship program. To encourage young people choosing to go directly into the workforce, there are notably scholarships available to them, as well as those heading into higher education. According to Greg Mickelson, Chair of the Scholarship Subcommittee which is part of the Workforce Development Committee, “this year eight scholarships are available in the amount of $500 each to young people statewide who seek to enter the manufacturing sector via either route. These funds are intended to help students enter the CT manufacturing workforce,” he explains, “this may be a formal educational program or additional training. The point is we want them to succeed, and we believe in them, because we believe in the strength and vitality of manufacturing in Connecticut.” To spread the word, guidance counselors at Connecticut high schools that have manufacturing programs have received informational packets to share with students. The application packet may also be found on the ManufactureCT website, at Committees – ManufactureCT. Says Mark Auletta, Chair of the Board of Directors of ManufactureCT, “Because manufacturing is a vital yet under-represented sector in Connecticut and because manufacturers statewide all face similar challenges, we exist to enable their success and fulfillment. Young people may enter manufacturing through several alternative pathways, and we welcome them equally.” In addition, there is a Kris Lorch scholarship in the amount of $1000, named in memory of an industry pioneer who lived, worked, and innovated in Connecticut manufacturing. Applicants for this scholarship must be entering the manufacturing sector and also must be a family member of one of ManufactureCT’s member companies. The directory of member companies is publicly accessible on the ManufactureCT website: Business Directory Search - ManufactureCT The application deadline for all scholarships is March 31. Those selected to receive the scholarships will be announced on May 15, 2023.
