Start your morning off with a hot cup of coffee, reconnect with your local business leaders, and take a tour of the much anticipated opening of the new museum that showcases the early history of the settlement of Norwich which centered around the Norwichtown Green, highlighting the tradesmen who lived and worked around the Green as well as the original chimney forge used by the Norwich silversmith Joseph Carpenter in 1772! Joseph Carpenter was a silversmith and clock maker in Norwich in the late 1700's. His silversmith shop (owned by the Society of the Founders of Norwich) is still located on the Norwichtown Green and is one of the few remaining frame tradesmen shops left in New England. There are two of his clocks on display at the Leffingwell House Museum as well as his business ledger with the accounts of Norwich residents. The Carpenter Shop needed some preservation work, but thanks to the collaboration between the Society of the Founders and the Norwich Historical Society, it is ready to show off!. Don’t forget to add the 17th Annual Connecticut Open House Day event to your calendar on Saturday, June 11th!! You can visit three historic sites in Norwich!
