For Immediate Release-January 28, 2022 Pam Kinder, VP Business Development pkinder@ucfs.org/860-822-4146 FCC Awards UCFS Healthcare $946,016. UCFS Healthcare has received $946,016 in funding from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to purchase remote patient monitoring equipment, as well as connected mobile devices which will help serve our patients with chronic illnesses and those who are at a high risk for COVID-19 complications while also helping to decrease barriers to accessing telehealth services. UCFS Healthcare is headquartered in Norwich, CT, and in 2021 provided medical, dental, and behavioral health services to over 16,000 people throughout Eastern CT. “Early in the pandemic we made a large investment in technology so that patients would have the choice of how they received care - in person or via telehealth. Offering telehealth services to our patients continues to be an important aspect of how we deliver quality health care and this funding will enable us to expand that model to monitor patients with hypertension and diabetes from their homes.” stated Jennifer Granger, President/CEO. Congressman Joe Courtney congratulated UCFS for this recognition of their never-ending work to improve care for patients in our communities. He stated: “This federal grant funding provided through Congress’ response to COVID-19 is a huge investment in remote caregiving and telehealth which have become essential during the pandemic. These tools are particularly important in our region, where the tyranny of distance makes it especially challenging for vulnerable patients to get the care they need. This funding opportunity was an extremely competitive one, and UCFS was the only healthcare provider in the state to receive a grant. Once again, our health centers are on the forefront of patient care, meeting their patients where they live and work to keep our neighbors healthy.”
