The event will be staged in person at the market/cafe and online via Zoom. The free event will be open to the public with pre-registration required on The Ditty Bag’s Facebook page or directly at: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUkf-GsrjMiGNNnvuUjdOk8GTqJiiLXyP_l Topics: (1) Zero-waste wrapping, with use of craft paper and paper tape. The store recommends and will provide recycled white paper for children to color with crayons made from recycled crayons. At the event, Deniz Kayan, store manager, will announce a wrapping-paper design contest for children. (2) Zero-waste gifts, such as wooden bathroom grooming and hygiene products in place of plastic; soaps and hand and body creams made from essential oils with no silicon and sold in plastics-free packaging. (3) Gifts for children designed to encourage physically active outdoor play, not sedentary time before a television, computer, or tablet screen, such as kits for solar-powered toy rovers. 2. Ms. Kayan, committed to environmental issues in her studies at the University of New Hampshire and community activism, will lead the presentation and discussion on Zoom from Washington, D.C., where she is an intern with the Department of Energy. Store owner Jason – Hine, a sailor and educator who has made it his mission to provide consumers in this area with zero-waste and plastic-free shopping options, will run the in-person session in the store, 7 Roosevelt Avenue, Mystic. “As a SCORE mentor to The Ditty Bag, not to mention a grandfather, I have this event on my calendar,” says Frank LaMonaca, president of the SCORE Southeastern Connecticut chapter.
