Nov. 17, 2021… The SECT Women’s Network’s Monthly Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 11:30 am at Filomena’s Restaurant 262 Boston Post Road, Waterford, CT outside under their tent. This Military Appreciation Luncheon will feature Lori Marriott, Senior Director of Military Services at Easterseals – Veterans Rally Point. She was the first member of the Veterans Rally Point team established in March 2018. Ms. Marriott oversees the Women’s Veterans Initiative, The Peer Support Programs, and the Caregiver Retreats for our Military & Veteran Family programs. She is a key player in the process surrounding the $2.5 million state bond grant for the build-out of an 18,000 sq ft “Veterans Rally Point Center of Excellence” in Norwich, CT. Easterseals is committed to ensuring the successful reintegration of veterans/servicemembers and their families into civilian life by offering a “hand up” to veterans/servicemembers and military families, removing barriers so they can live their best life. Military Path: Ms. Marriott is a prior service active duty Army CPT. She was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in May 1988 with a Regular Army Commission and received the Distinguished Military Graduate Award. Ms. Marriott attended the US Army Airborne School, Ft Benning, GA as an ROTC cadet. She attended the Quartermaster Officer Basic Course at Ft Lee, VA where she was awarded the unit guidon for the Company “Spirit Award” by her peers and cadre. She took the US Army Parachute Rigger Course. Ft Lee, VA as well. Her first official job in the Army was as a Recruiter at Providence College for their ROTC program. She was also stationed in Livorno, Italy at Camp Darby (1989 – 1992). During Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1991), Ms. Marriott was responsible for Tent City at Camp Darby. Units deploying from the US into the war zone were housed in tents while their munitions, weapons, and supplies were prepped and loaded. She reported daily to the Southern European Task Force Commander, a 4-star general. Since these troops were heading off to the war zone, their health and well-being while in her care, were of utmost importance to her. Ms. Marriott has been awarded many honors including: Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Overseas Service Medal, CT Wartime Service Medal After her military service, she became a stay-at-home mom for many years. After that, Ms. Marriott went back to school to become a Certified Fitness Trainer, and ran her own fitness business from 2007 – 2017. She is an avid runner and ran her first marathon as a gift to herself for her 50th birthday! And, her second at aged 51. She has raised two children – Jack, a recent graduate of Boston College, now working fulltime at BC, and simultaneously pursuing his MBA. Her daughter Julia is a senior at NYU studying English and Dramatic Literature. Presently, Ms. Marriott Lori is passionate about her work at Easterseals - Veterans Rally Point and is grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve both veterans and military families around the state. At this event, Ms. Marriott will be collecting clothing items for Easterseals – Veterans Rally Point including items for both men & women: packages of underwear, socks, belts, jogger sweatpants, Dockers casual pants, Polo shirts (long and short-sleeved), sleepwear, athletic wear, toiletry kits - draw string sling and backpacks, toothbrushes and tooth paste (full-sized), dental floss, body wash, Q-tips (mini box), manicure kit, hand sanitizer wipes, ear plugs, eye mask, face masks, combs and brushes, shampoo and conditioner (full-sized).
