Charles “Chick” Corrado, President of General Dynamics – Applied Physical Sciences (APS), and Christopher LaRose, General Manager of Norwich Public Utilities (NPU), will take the helm of the campaign. Chick Corrado is one of the founders of APS. He received his Ph.D. in Acoustics from MIT and his B.S. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute. Dr. Corrado has been actively involved in the development of advanced acoustic systems and marine vehicle machinery silencing projects since 1986. He has led the development of several state of the art vibration and acoustic radiation prediction methods for the Office of Naval Research (ONR). These methods are recognized for their exploitation of the underlying physics to yield significant gains in computational efficiency. Corrado is a member of United Way’s Board of Directors. “I’m looking forward to a successful campaign,” noted Corrado, “that continues the great support of the community provided by United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.” As General Manager for NPU, LaRose oversees and directs all aspects of NPU including operations, human resources, customer service, administration, and finance. He is directly responsible for NPU’s annual budget of approximately $100 million and reports to NPU’s five-member Board of Commissioners. LaRose graduated with B.S. degrees in both Material and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. He has also earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. “United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is committed to supporting programs in the community that are needed now more than ever, said LaRose. “I am looking forward to this year’s campaign successfully connecting people and businesses with the community members who need those services.” ABOUT UNITED WAY OF SOUTHEASTERN CONNECTICUT United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a locally-based non-profit organization supporting a network of health and human services, programs, and initiatives in New London County that work together to help people in need and improve community conditions. Supported programs include early care and education, child development, employment training, physical and mental health care, crisis intervention, shelter, emergency/disaster preparation, and response and recovery service. United Way operates the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Center which provides food and household items to more than 90 free emergency food programs. United Way supports 2-1-1 Connecticut for free information and referral 24/7 and Project Warm-up for one-time, emergency heating assistance.
