“Blues on Broadway” performer Studebaker John Friday, September 17, 2021 7:30 PM - 10:00 AM EST Norwich, CT 06360 September 8, 2021 For immediate release. Norwich, CT: Norwich Arts Center announces the September “Blues on Broadway” performer Studebaker John. A Chicago Blues institution – Studebaker John has been blowing harp since he was seven years old. In the late 60’s John hung around Maxwell Street soaking up all that the blues scene of the day had to offer. It was at this time that he was drawn to slide guitar wizard Hound Dog Taylor’s shows and took up guitar, modeling his playing after the Hound Dog’s energetic style. In the 1970’s John formed his renowned band, Studebaker John and the Hawks named for a car he owned (and still does) with a nod toward JB Hutto and the Hawks. Studebaker John and his band have recorded nearly twenty albums. In 1991 John joined the Yardbirds and Pretty Things to record an album of classic Chicago Blues which then led to his recording “Wine, Women & Whiskey.” A number of John’s songs can be heard on the soundtracks of various movies over the years. Studebaker John’s playing style and performances are exciting and steeped deep in his Chicago roots with its traditional Blues forms energized by a modern outlook. John has emerged as a creative force with vision and foresight creating a new standard for the future of Blues. The Norwich Arts Center’s Blues on Broadway series rolls on when Studebaker John takes the stage of the Donald L. Oat Theater on September 17. An event so special it was moved to Friday, Sept. 17 instead of 2nd Wednesday of the month. Friday, September 17 @ 7:30pm Doors open at 7pm $25 Adults $23 Seniors/Military/Student $20 NAC Members Tickets @ www.norwicharts.org/events “See you on Broadway.”
