Mystic: March 12, 2021: Bruce Flax, a 26-year employee and Director at Foxwoods Resort Casino has accepted the position of Executive Director for the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce (GMCC). Flax was voted into the position by the Chamber’s Board of Directors on Tuesday. Flax brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from both public and private sectors. Most recently, Flax was the Director of Entertainment Marketing & Ticket Operations for Foxwoods Resort Casino managing the marketing campaigns for over 200 shows annually. Flax has been a Board Member for the GMCC and has also served as the Board’s Chairman. Flax has been serving as Interim Executive Director for the GMCC since December 2020. A former Councilor and Mayor for the Town of Groton, Flax’s enthusiasm for bringing people together and working towards a common goal are just some of the traits the GMCC Board admired in Flax’s application. “We were fortunate to interview many qualified applicants for the position of Executive Director and found Bruce’s enthusiasm for the goals set by the board, together with his passion for making meaningful member to member connections, the right combination to move the Chamber forward. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and look forward to supporting Bruce as he helps lead the GMCC into the future.” – Shannon McKenzie, Interim Chair for the GMCC Board of Directors. Flax takes over the Chamber at a time where Mystic businesses, as well as others around the country, are just coming out of the worst of COVID-19. Some businesses are thriving while others are still challenged by restrictions, economics, health and safety concerns. “I look forward to meeting with all of our members and creating connections and business opportunities to help them grow and succeed. With vaccine levels on the rise, we see a light at the end of the tunnel. Our recent Mystic Restaurant Week was a tremendous success with a record number of restaurants involved and an out-pouring of support from our locals. The Mystic Community is strong, the business owners and operators are ready to push forward, and I can’t wait to help them get started!” - Bruce Flax Look for more information soon from the GMCC on events for this year such as the NEW Mystic Outdoor Arts Festival, Floatchella on the Mystic River, Mystic Restaurant Week in the Fall, and Party of 12, an annual end of year GMCC Member Event.
