Norwich Arts Center’s Cooperative Gallery is pleased to announce that Sandra Jeknavorian has been elected as a Member. Sandra was born in Hartford and attended Hartford Art School where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. She then obtained a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Sandra is a tenured professor of Painting and Drawing, Program Coordinator of Visual Fine Arts and director of the Gallery at Three Rivers Community College. She lives in Norwich with her husband Sean and their son, Charlie. Sandra has exhibited her work and curated shows at various venues, notably at Studio Soto in Boston, Massachusetts, and the D.C. Arts Center in Washington D.C. Two of her paintings were purchased by the United States Federal Government, Department of the State and are installed at the United States Embassy in Yerevan, Armenia. Her most recent works are pastel/charcoal drawings incorporating themes of nature, memory, speculation and mystery. She begins with an object or a photograph and early on in the process of drawing, puts the object or photograph away and lets her imagination take over. Sandra’s work along with other NAC artists can be viewed on Saturday’s from 12-4pm and more information is available by visiting Membership to the Cooperative Gallery of the Norwich Arts Center. NAC is open to all regional artists and the benefits include periodic exhibition opportunities and institutional promotion and marketing. Artists whose work is “non-traditional” are particularly encouraged to apply, as this is the primary focus of the Gallery. There are 3 levels of membership: Elected Artist Member, Associate Artist Member and NAC Member. Gallery shows will be available on www.norwicharts.org/exhibits and Norwich Arts Center can arrange for safe, curbside pickups. NAC Gallery is now the longest on-going cooperative gallery in southeastern Connecticut. Exhibitions rotate monthly. Annual shows include a juried Photo show, a juried Artistic Wanderings exhibit, the popular Holiday show and the NAC Artist Members show.
