CL&A offers recreation, socialization, self-advocacy, job preparedness and civic engagement programs to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout eastern Connecticut. It is the only program of its kind in the region, and one of its components—a 50-member Volunteer Corps – supports over 75 fundraising and community service events throughout the state annually. “This year, the pandemic forced us to pivot to largely virtual services, including our CL&A programming,” noted Kathleen Stauffer, The Arc’s CEO. “Our team rose to the challenge of developing creative online activities, including voter registration and mobilization outreach. The people we support see CL&A as a critical support network, particularly in these challenging times. Families have called us a lifeline for their loved ones. We couldn’t have done it without the partnership of area municipalities like North Stonington.” To learn more about The Arc Eastern Connecticut and its programs throughout the region, and for weekly agency updates and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit TheArcECT.org or contact Denise Tift at (860) 889-4435, ext. 116.
