Chelsea Groton Bank Recognized as Top Workplace for 5th Straight Year

GROTON, Conn. – Throughout its 166-year history, Chelsea Groton Bank has won countless awards for helping their customers and communities achieve their goals. Now for the fifth year in a row, employees have bestowed the Bank with the 2020 Top Workplaces honor based on a survey of Connecticut employers, sponsored by the Hartford Courant.

“We are truly grateful to accept this honor from the Hartford Courant for another consecutive year. Knowing it was earned in response to our team’s feedback about Chelsea Groton’s work culture, is especially gratifying this year,” said Michael Rauh, President and CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank. “Fostering a positive workplace culture has always been a top priority. This obviously became more challenging in the spring, when staffing was limited in branches and many team members were working remotely. It’s challenging to ‘check in’ like you can in person, but we recognized the need to figure out a way and to be understanding now more than ever, of the many challenges our team could be going through in their personal lives.”

The annual Top Workplaces accolades are based on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by Energage, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Fifteen aspects of workplace culture were measured, covering four main areas, including how well employees work together toward a common cause. Employees were asked about company values, whether new ideas are encouraged or if managers help employees learn and grow. Pay, benefits and training also are key questions.

Chelsea Bank employees noted that their contributions both in and out of the office are highly valued and that they are members of a close-knit work family. Many feel proud to perform meaningful work that improves the lives of their neighbors, and to be a part of an organization that helped so many facing difficult times this year.

“At Chelsea Groton, we take great care in selecting benefits and initiatives that contribute to our employees’ health and wellbeing, and we celebrate and acknowledge the accomplishments and efforts of our team,” said Anne Wilkinson, SVP, Director of Human Resources at Chelsea Groton Bank. “This spring, we also focused on remote employee engagement, which included everything from virtual get-togethers, to fitness classes on Zoom, to team pride days. It was very important to us to continue to have touchpoints and stay connected, and we’re thrilled our team felt that appreciation and effort.”

While Chelsea Groton offers traditional benefits for employees, the Bank also provides employees the opportunity to partake in a variety of continual education programs, and offers the Grow, Launch, and Lead leadership programs for team members at every level within the organization. Team members are invited to participate in a wellness program designed with incentives to track and challenge participants in physical, mental, and financial well-being. Community volunteerism, donations and supply drives have also always been a driving factor in bringing the team together.
