CITY OF NORWICH, ESTABLISHED 1659 CONNECTICUT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS RELEASE CONTACT: Bob Kilpatrick rkilpatrick@cityofnorwich.org 860-373-4553 or Erin Haggan – ehaggan@cityofnorwich.org 860-908-7955 Norwich Recreation, along with Norwich Youth & Family Services collaborate to creatively offer a way for families to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt during COVID 19 When: April 6th – April 10th Where: Facebook Social Media Pages @norwichyouthandfamilyservices @norwichrec With Easter approaching and the Stay at Home and Social Distancing orders in effect, local agencies had to get creative in order to still bring some fun and excitement to this Easter holiday. Last year the Norwich Recreation Department had its first community Easter Egg-stravaganza, which was scheduled to be held again this year. However, due to the impacts of COVID 19, the event was cancelled, but Recreation Department Program Coordinator, Bob Kilpatrick was determined to bring some alternative options to the Norwich community. With the help of the Youth & Family Services team, the Recreation Department will be launching its very first virtual online Egg Hunt on both departments’ Facebook pages. Community members can go onto FB and view daily posts on each department’s page that will have pictures related to recreational activities as well as self-care, mental health and substance abuse awareness. Amidst the posts, hidden in the picture will be any number of Easter eggs. Families can view the posts together, make a guess on the number of hidden eggs in the comments section and then share the post, and tag a friend to be entered to win various prizes. Winners will be drawn on April 13th and a no contact drop off or pick up of the prizes will be coordinated. So, what families should do is Follow or Like both the Norwich Recreation Department and Norwich Youth and Family Services Facebook Pages and then keep their eyes out for one post daily on each Page during the week of April 6th-10th, make their guess in the comments section and then share and tag a friend. What if families do not have Facebook? All the posts will be uploaded on the Recreation and YFS website pages through www.norwichct.org/recreation and www.norwichct.org/yfs and families can download the document and email their guesses to either ehaggan@cityofnorwich.org or recreation@cityofnorwich.org to join the fun and be entered into the drawing. There will also be various uploads on the website of pictures of Easter eggs that can be downloaded & printed for families to color with one another and then cut out and hang in their windows if they so choose.
