For Immediate Release August 2, 2019 Media Contact: Elijah Gonzalez 860-887-7962 x 109 Tigers Fall in Back and Forth Contest at Batavia Tigers total 12 hits in the game Batavia, NY - Kingston Liniak went 3-for-5 with two RBI, but the Connecticut Tigers (20-26) fell 6-5 against the Batavia Muckdogs (29-18) in the first meeting between the two teams this year. This was Liniak’s first three-hit game of the season. Dalvy Rosario got the Muckdogs on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 1-0. Batavia added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run from Nic Ready to make it 3-0. Liniak had the response for the Tigers in the next half inning. He brought home two runs on a double down the left-field line to cut the lead to one. Troy Johnston brought the lead back to 4-2 with a single to right field to score J.D. Orr from second. Johnston finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Connecticut took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning. After Jordan Verdon doubled, Hector Martinez delivered two RBIs on a double to center field to tie the game at 4-4. Martinez now leads the team in RBIs this season with 16. Eric De La Rosa followed Martinez with a RBI double down the left-field line to score him and make it 5-4. Those were the final two runs the Tigers scored in the contest. Edison Suriel (Win, 2-1) pitched two scoreless frames for Batavia to maintain the lead. Suriel surrendered two hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Batavia got back in front in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Johnston singled off of Maddux Conger (Loss, 0-1), and he brought home Rosario on a throwing error by the Tigers in the outfield on the same play. Ready added his third RBI on a double to left field to take the 6-5 lead. Conger went two innings giving up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. In the ninth, Liniak reached as the first base-runner in the frame with one out. After a passed ball he moved into scoring position. Kona Quiggle followed with a walk in the at-bat to put the lead-run at first. Evan Brabrand (Save,10) retired the final two hitters to finish the game for Batavia. He went one inning giving up one hit with one walk and one strikeout. The Connecticut Tigers will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on Batavia in game two of the series.
