For Immediate Release July 30, 2019 Media Contact: Elijah Gonzalez 860-887-7962 x 109 CT Gets Comeback Win in First Game Against Williamsport The Tigers put up two unanswered runs in the eighth to get the win Norwich, CT - Corey Joyce went 2-for-3 with his first professional home run, and the Connecticut Tigers (20-23) got the 3-2 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters (14-29). The Tigers did not lead in the contest until the conclusion of the eighth inning. Williamsport got on the board in the fourth inning with a walk and a pair of singles off of Carson Lance. Lance gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts in the game. Nate Fassnacht drove in the lone run in the inning for the Crosscutters. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the fourth on the home run by Joyce. This was the first hit of the game for Connecticut off of the starter for Williamsport, Hsin-Chieh Lin. Lin worked 3.2 innings surrendering one run on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts. After scoreless middle innings, the Crosscutters retook the lead in the eighth. After an error, a single and a wild pitch, Herbert Iser delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home a run to make it 2-1. Bryce Tassin (Win, 1-0) came in to get the final out of the inning on a strikeout to strand the runner at third. In the bottom half of the eighth, Jake Holton lead off the inning with a single. Joyce walked to put runners at first and second. After a wild pitch to Kona Quiggle, the Tigers put runners in scoring position. Quiggle delivered a single into shallow right-center field off of Brian Marconi (Loss, 0-3) to tie the game at 2-2. With runners at the corners, Hector Martinez laced a single back up the middle to make it 3-2. With the RBI, Martinez is now tied for the team lead with 14. Tassin finished off the contest for Connecticut in the ninth. He set down the Crosscutters in order to close out the frame. The Connecticut Tigers will take on the Williamsport Crosscutters in game two of the series tomorrow night.
