For Immediate Release July 1, 2019 Media Contact: Elijah Gonzalez 860-887-7962 x 109 Lance Shines in Tigers Win The Tigers win their third contest out of the last four Norwich, CT - Carson Lance (Win, 1-1) threw a career-high 10 strikeouts as the Connecticut Tigers (7-10) defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds (6-11) by a score of 2-0. The Tigers got on the board in the fourth and fifth inning of the game. After back-to-back singles by Jake Holton and Eliezer Alfonzo, Cooper Johnson got his first career RBI to make it 1-0. Holton finished the game 2-for-4, and Alfonzo extended his hit-streak to seven games for Connecticut. Newly-added Jack Kenley brought the lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. On the mound, Lance set down seven-straight batters on strikeouts from the first to the third inning. Zac Shepherd (Hold, 1) pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Lance in the seventh. In the eighth, Aberdeen cut into the lead late on an RBI single off of Austin Anderson (Hold, 1). With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, the Tigers turned to the bullpen. Zack Hess (Save, 1) came in and got a fly out to end the inning. Hess went 1.1 innings to get the four out save and the first of his pro career. The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow in the second game of the series against the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
