NORWICH HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE SOCIETY OF THE FOUNDERS OF NORWICH HOSTS LIVING HISTORY EVENT ON THE NORWICHTOWN GREEN

(Norwich, CT) – The Norwich Historical Society and the Society of the Founders of Norwich are hosting a Colonial Days: Living History event on Saturday May 6th from 11am-3pm on the Norwichtown Green in celebration of the season opening of the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop and the Norwich Heritage & Regional Visitors’ Center.

This event will feature historical reenactors, colonial crafters, demonstrations, games, and hands on activities for children, and entertainment. The Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop Museum ($5 fee) and the Norwich Heritage & Regional Visitors’ Center will be open from 11:00am – 3:00pm. The outdoor event is free and open to the public. The Silversmith shop was built in 1772 by Joseph Carpenter, silversmith, and clock maker. It is unique in that much of the original structural elements are still part of the building. It has never been moved and is one of the few remaining tradesmen shops left in New England still on the same site. The forge that Carpenter used has been revealed for visitors to enjoy.

This history museum is open for visitors from May 6 -October 29, 11am-3pm Friday-Sunday $5 admission.
The Visitors’ Center is open May 6 – October 29 from Friday – Sunday 11am-3pm, free.
