The Hospital, founded in 1891, is a short-term, not-for-profit, acute care hospital located in Norwich, Connecticut. It is the primary source of health services for the residents of Norwich, Lisbon, Sprague, Franklin, Bozrah, Preston, Griswold, Voluntown, and Canterbury. The Hospital's primary and secondary service areas have a total population of over 150,000. The Hospital is the only acute care facility in its primary service area and the only State designated Trauma Center in Eastern Connecticut. In addition to being the only State designated Trauma Center in Eastern Connecticut, the Hospital provides a comprehensive array of vital healthcare services including: Cancer Services, including radiation therapy; cardiac care, including diagnostic catherterization; diabetes management including wound care with hyprbaric oxygen therapy; outpatient surgery; and primary care through its Backus Health Care Centers in Colchester, Gales Ferry and Montville.
