Covanta is an Energy from Waste (EfW) company. Numerous communities benefit from the waste disposal and energy generating services provided by the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resource Recovery facility in Preston, Connecticut, operating as Covanta SECONN. The facility, which opened in 1991, receives waste six days a week and safely disposes of approximately 689 tons of municipal solid waste a day producing 18.4 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy while reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The facility produces enough electricity each year to meet the needs of approximately 14,000 homes.
