FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 16, 2017 Media Contact: Rich Haskell rich@cttigers.com YANKEES HURLERS SHUT DOWN TIGERS IN SWEEP Connecticut falls three games under .500 for first time STATEN ISLAND, NY- First-place Staten Island got outstanding starts from Jonathan Loaisiga and Jio Orozco to lead the Yankees to a doubleheader sweep of the Connecticut Tigers Wednesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. In the opener, Loaisiga (1-0) made his first start with Staten Island a beauty, throwing five innings of one-hit shutout ball in a 5-1 Yankees win. The Tigers scored their only run of the twinbill in the sixth inning on a pair of walks and a Garrett McCain single. Dane Myers (0-2) took the loss for the Tigers. In the nightcap, it was Yankees starter Jio Orozco's turn to dominate. He matched Loaisiga's opening line of five innings, one hit, no runs. Jhonny Mateo (3-3) didn't fare as well for Connecticut, yielding a pair of earned runs over three innings to take the loss. Luke Burch, Hector Martinez and Elys Escobar had the three Tiger hits in the Game Two, 3-0 loss. With the loss, Connecticut falls to 24-27 on the season, marking the first time this year they have been that far under .500. The Tigers will try to right the ship on Thursday night as Ken Figueroa (1-1) will take the mound in Game three of the four-game set at 7:05.
