FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 15, 2017 Media Contact: Rich Haskell rich@cttigers.com IRONBIRDS SCORE IN FIRST FIVE INNINGS TO PULL AWAY FROM TIGERS Hanifee gets fourth win as Aberdeen cruises, 8-1 ABERDEEN, MD- The Aberdeen Ironbirds evened their weekend set with the Tigers after using two unearned runs in the first to ease to an 8-1 win Saturday night at Ripken Stadium. Connecticut got hits from Ro Coleman, Dylan Burdeaux and Colby Bortles to take an early lead, only to see the Birds come back and score twice in the bottom of the first without a hit. Aberdeen then scored two in the second to take control, adding single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings to pull away to the easy victory and send the Tigers back to .500 (11-11) on the year. Connecticut starter Jose Vasquez (1-1) was roughed up for five runs on five hits in his three innings of work, while Aberdeen starter Brenan Hanifee (4-0) beat the Tigers for the second time this season with six innings of six hit ball while striking out seven. Both Coleman and Burdeaux went 2-4 to lead Connecticut. The Tigers and Ironbirds will play the rubber match of the three game set on Sunday at 5:35. The pre-game on 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com begins at 5:20. Ryan Castellanos (1-2) gets the start for the Tigers. Connecticut will head to Troy, New York after the game to open a three game set against the Tri-City Valley Cats Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tigers return to Dodd Stadium on Thursday to face the Brooklyn Cyclones at 7:05.
