FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 14, 2017 Media Contact: Rich Haskell rich@cttigers.com UNEARNED RUN IN 8TH SEND TIGERS BACK OVER .500 Bullpen hurls six shutout innings in 3-2 win at Aberdeen ABERDEEN, MD- Cole Peterson scored the go-ahead run on an error in the top of the 8th inning,and five Connecticut relievers pitched six innings of shutout ball as the Tigers held off the Ironbirds, 3-2, in Aberdeen Friday night. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after rain had delayed the start of the game for over an hour. Colby Bortles and Rinaldo Rivera had RBI hits in the inning, but Aberdeen tied it after two. The Connecticut bullpen took over from there, shutting out the Ironbirds over the final six innings and manufacturing an unearned run in the eighth on a passed ball, force out, walk, and throwing error by first baseman Ryan Ripken to take the lead at 3-2. Brandyn Sittinger and Max Green set the Ironbirds down in the final two innings, with Green getting his first save of the season. Connecticut (11-10) will send Jose Vasquez (1-0; 0.98 ERA) to the mound Saturday night as the Tigers look for two in a row in Aberdeen and three straight overall.
