The CSA garden will be an expansion of The Arc NLC’s successful Farm Stand on Rt. 117 in Ledyard and will be able to provide fresh produce for up to 30 families. The Farm Stand grows and sells organic produce throughout the season and is run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as part of The Arc NLC’s Employment Transition program, which hires and trains people with IDD in a variety of fields that lead to competitive employment with area businesses. With the donation from The Ledyard Rotary Foundation grant, participant employees and their Job Coach will fence the new CSA area in preparation for initial tilling and planting a fall cover crop. Peoples United Community Foundation has contributed to funding the re-activation of a well on the property for a full CSA season next year. The Arc NLC is seeking additional funding to complete the well project. To participate in the CSA program or for more information regarding The Arc New London County’s Employment Transition Center or Farm Stand, contact Denise Tift at (860) 889-4435 x 116 or dtift@thearcnlc.org.
