Registrations are coming in, hiring is in progress and new opportunities are on tap for the summer season. The Kids Camp is excited to announce three Open House Dates to allow parents and children the opportunity to visit and tour the camp, learn what activities are available and to meet the new Chief Operating Officer and Director of Programs. “We are thrilled to have Brian Vance, COO and Jes Vance, Director of Programs, on our staff,” said Denise K. Hornbecker, CEO of Channel 3 Kids Camp. “Together they are bringing new ideas, energy and excitement to the Camp. We are so excited to be entering our 108th season,” she continued. The Camp is currently enrolling campers for its day, overnight, summer preschool and summer teen programs. While at camp, children ages 4 – 16 enjoy activities ranging from swimming lessons and archery to a ropes challenge course with zip line and arts & crafts, performing arts, hiking and rock climbing. New activities this year include wood working and digital media. “We’ve been busy renovating our Recreation Hall, which houses our library, performing arts and digital media program,” Hornbecker continued. “It will now be usable year round, and be far more accessible to those with special needs.” Channel 3 Kids Camp runs for 10 weekly sessions between June 18 and August 18. Children with special needs participate in the same programs and activities as their peers, as the camp is inclusive of all abilities. The Camp also runs a camp week earlier in June for adults with special needs. The Camp partners with organizations including The Epilepsy Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology and Connecticut Police Chief’s Association, each group bringing campers for a week. The Operation Purple week for military children, in partnership with the National Military Foundation, provides special opportunities for kids from active military families and will be offered for the 9th consecutive year. The Open House dates will be Saturday March 10 (with an inclement weather date March 24), Saturday, April 28 and Saturday, May 12. All Open Houses run from 10 am – noon. Reservations are not required. Parents who cannot attend on those dates are encouraged to call for an appointment to tour the camp. Channel 3 Kids Camp believes that ALL children deserve a Kids Camp experience. Its mission is to provide fun year-round opportunities to children of all abilities, families, and communities through educational and recreational programs that promote diversity, acceptance, and environmental appreciation. The nonprofit organization provides traditional summer overnight and day camp, weekend groups and respite weekends, a year-round Teen Leadership program and a year-round child care center. Channel 3 Kids Camp is located in Andover and Coventry Connecticut on 150 wooded acres alongside the Skungamaug River.
